Request an item

Place a request on Deakin items

You can place a request on Deakin items if they are currently checked out to someone else or are not located at your campus.

  1. In Library Search, find the item you want to request.
  2. Click on the 'Request it' button.
  3. Using the dropdown menu, select 'Click and collect' at your preferred campus.
  4. You will receive an email confirming your request.
  5. We'll email again once your item is available on the click and collect shelf at the campus library you selected.

You may also have the option to request free postal delivery for your requested item.

Note: For item requests from another campus, allow 1-3 weekdays for transit, from available date.

Place an interlibrary loan request

You can use our interlibrary loan form to request:

  • copies of articles, book chapters or documents we don’t have
  • a photocopy of an article that’s only available in a print journal
  • we borrow a book or other item from another library or supplier for you
  • a loan/copy of a thesis from another university (read note below)

We will try to find another library or supplier around the world who can supply it.

Once we have received the item it will be emailed to you (for copies), mailed to you (if you are eligible) or sent to your campus library for pickup.

When you submit a request you're making a legal declaration to abide by the conditions of the Copyright Act 1968 (Commonwealth).

Request access to theses

Request access to a Deakin thesis

Many Deakin theses can be downloaded from Deakin’s institutional repository, DRO.

You can request access to a thesis that is not available for download, provided it is required for research or study purposes, by contacting the Interlibrary loan team.

Request access to a non-Deakin thesis

Most university libraries do not loan their theses out, but we can still ask. If a copy has to be made, it may take 6-8 weeks depending on the thesis format. Once you receive the copy, it is yours to keep.

Note, any thesis that has been embargoed due to sensitive or confidential material cannot be supplied.

Suggest an item for purchase

We can often purchase the book, thesis, standard, or patent we don't have, and add it to our collection.

We will try to find a supplier from around the world. Please note we are an e-preferred library, so we will look for an electronic copy unless you mention that a hardcopy is required.

If we are unable to find a supplier we will contact you to check if you would like us to try to borrow it from another library on your behalf.

Note, any thesis that has been embargoed due to sensitive or confidential material cannot be supplied.
