Definitions of key resource types
Here are some helpful definitions. Remember, not all units will have these resources.
Textbook
A textbook is a resource that is used for educational purposes to cover a subject area.
Prescribed textbook
An essential resource required for you to succeed in the unit. You should purchase a copy (either a physical book or an e-book) as the Library has a limited number of copies.

Recommended textbook
A resource that you are advised to read to build foundational knowledge. You are not expected to purchase a copy. The Library has a limited number of copies.

Reading list
Your Unit Chair may have a weekly or a module-based breakdown of resources. The importance of each resource will be indicated on your reading list (i.e. prescribed, recommended or further), and can be in the form of a reading, a video or an audio file.

Prescribed resources on your reading list are essential to build your knowledge of a topic. A prescribed textbook may be a part of your prescribed reading.

Recommended and further resources
A recommended resource on your reading list is useful to build your understanding of the topic, but is less important than a prescribed resource. Further resources provide an extension to your understanding.
