The unit aims to lead students to a greater understanding and appreciation of different approaches practiced at schools in relation to the learning and teaching of education for sustainability, socio scientific issues and environmental education to lower secondary level years 7 to 10 across a range of curriculum areas and as a whole school approach.

The content of this unit will include:

• The Nature and Purposes of Education for Sustainability

• Different approaches to Teaching and Learning in Education for Sustainability

• Placing Education for sustainability in the National Curriculum

• Curriculum plans which exemplify approaches to environmental sustainability in science education

• Resources for EE and Sustainability programs

• Assessing EE & Sustainability in Schools


Design a science workbook on a socio-scientific issue for year 7th based on the National Curriculum. 3,300 word (Individual) 60%

Design a board game to teach a socio-scientific or a sustainability issue and provide a written explanation. 1,800 word (group) 40%
