Topics to be addressed in this unit include:

  • The role of the cinematographer
  • How cinematography contributes to the ‘writing’ of the film
  • Camera equipment, testing and operation
  • Lighting equipment, testing and operation
  • Safety on set
  • Lens theory and shot composition
  • Exposure theory and principles of lighting design
  • Visual interpretation from script to screen
  • Operation and management of a camera crew
  • Collaboration with other production personnel.
