Content

This unit integrates knowledge understanding of construction developed in SRT151 Construction and Structures 1 and provides opportunity to further understanding of structural principles and construction methodologies  applied to medium-rise commercial and industrial buildings through a systematic examination of their design and construction.  Structural topics include: interdiction to permanent and temporary forces acting on structural elements and systems; principles governing election of structural systems; structural behaviour and adequacy of building components including formwork and scaffolding.  Construction topics include: site operations, sub-structure, super-structure and enclosure methodologies for medium–rise commercial and industrial buildings. Construction site operation, prefabrication and assembly methods, materials handling and lifting processes and equipment for construction of medium-rise commercial and industrial buildings are also part of this unit.

Assessment

Two assignments (30% group, 30% individual) 60%, examination 40%.  To be eligible to obtain a pass in this unit students must achieve at least 40% in the examination.
