Overview

This sequence prepares students for work in complementary professional fields upon graduation. Careers immediately available to health sciences graduates within the pathway to allied professions, can be divided broadly into the following categories (please refer to the Psychology Careers website for details):

  • Community work
  • Coaching and counselling individuals and groups
  • Health and human services consulting

HPS202Developmental Psychology (Child and Adolescent)

HPY210Applied Counselling Skills (Introductory) *

HPS226Health Psychology (Chronic Illness)

HPS302Developmental Psychology (Adult)

HPY306Applied Counselling Skills (Intermediate) *

*NOTE - From Trimester 1 2023 there have been changes to the major and minor.

HPS207 Preparing for Employment
AND
HPS328 Psychology at Work (Internship)

have been replaced with the following units

HPY210 Applied Counselling Skills (Introductory)*
AND
HPY306 Applied Counselling Skills (Intermediate)*

Students who have completed HPS207 must complete HPS328 in 2023 to complete their major
Students who have not completed HPS207 and HPS328 will complete the new units of HPY210 and HPY306 instead.

Minor

Students currently complete HBS110 and HPS226 and either (HPS202 and HPS302) or (HPS207 and HPS328).

Students who have completed HPS207 must complete HPS328 in 2023 to complete their minor
Students who have not completed HPS207 and HPS328 will complete either (HPS202 and HPS302) OR (HPY210 and HPY306) instead to complete the minor.
