Content
This unit is the first unit in your professional studies major sequence. It plays a key role in your teacher preparation and provides an introduction to the nature of education, schools, teaching and learning. As you explore the ideas contained in this unit we anticipate that you will develop an appreciation of the complex nature of the work that teachers do and the legislation and governance that apply to teachers' work. Who you are as a teacher will be a rich amalgam of who you are as a person and your understandings about your students, your curriculum area and the purposes of education and schooling. Developing a robust and scholarly perspective on these education factors will form a good foundation on which you can continue to build your own personal philosophy of learning and teaching. We hope you find this journey interesting, challenging and rewarding.
Students will be introduced to the Professional Portfolio where they will begin to collect evidence of their on-going professional learning. Students are introduced to aspects of professional experience and make links to the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) standards and to the Code of Conduct for teachers.
