Content
This unit is focused on understanding and applying psychological interventions for trauma and clinical health-based disorders. This aligns with contemporary perspectives on health and mental health that incorporate a range of determinants across biological, psychological and social domains. It includes an examination of psychopharmacology as it relates to comprehensive treatment planning for many psychological disorders. In doing so, this unit introduces the integrated nature of biology and psychology in the treatment of mental disorders. Students will be extended to consider how biological and psychological treatments can be effectively integrated in interventions for mental health treatment, including through the review of key principals of inter-professional practice. A highlight of the Unit is the examination of evidence-based psychological interventions for trauma and clinical health disorders, integrating CBT treatments with polyvagal theory, the brain-gut axis, attachment theory and mindfulness-based approaches. Opportunities to develop clinical competency in these areas will occur through simulation, practicalrehearsal (role-play) and individualised feedback.
