If you are not able to complete the placement by the end your trimester of enrolment in the placement unit, please email the School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences Professional Placement Office as soon as possible. Note for International students only: If you are not able to complete your placement by your visa expiry date, please note that you will be liable for any costs involved with extending your stay in Australia, for example: visa extension application cost and extra living expenses.’ This unit has mandatory on campus attendance requirements, therefore students must be in Australia when enrolled in this unit. Department of Human Services policy - Police Record Check and Working With Children CheckIn accordance with Department of Human Services policy, all students are required to undertake a National Police Record Check prior to placements in each calendar year of their course. In accordance with the Department of Justice 2007, Working with Children Act 2005, amended 2017, all students are required to undertake a Working with Children Check at the commencement of their course. Students who fail to obtain a Police Record Check and a Working with Children Check prior to the commencement of placement will not be able to undertake placement and this will impede progress in the course. Students may also be required to declare their immunisation status to satisfy the requirements of health organisations where they will be undertaking their learning experience. A health organisation may refuse to accept a student for placement if the student’s immunisation status is not satisfactory to the health organisation. |
Content
This unit will provide students with an opportunity to undertake a minimum of 140 hours of fieldwork experience within clinical exercise physiology scope of practice. Each student’s fieldwork experience will be supervised by Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA) accredited exercise physiologist, a university-trained allied health professional (e.g. registered physiotherapist) or an exercise scientist with appropriate experience working with clients with chronic disease. Field experiences are intended to provide students with opportunities to develop skills and knowledge in clinical exercise physiology to enhance their professional development and vocation potential.

Travel commitment
Because of the need for professional practice at external sites, all students undertaking the course should be aware of the required need for travel to placement sites. The requirement to travel is very real and travel time up to 2 hours each way is considered normal. It is also likely that you will have to attend at least one rural placement during the course.
The assessment due weeks provided may change. The Unit Chair will clarify the exact assessment requirements, including the due date, at the start of the teaching period.
