Students will on average spend 150-hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.

This unit surveys ideas and debates about democracy, which are central to the study of politics. Students learn how to analyse research literatures about procedure, participation, deliberation, and populism. The literature review is a key aspect of conducting research and it draws together skills and knowledge learnt in the Politics and Policy Studies major.
Analyse statements about democracy and debate the merits of various schools of thought about democracy

Compile and evaluate evidence relevant to schools of thought about democracy
On the basis of an analysis of various schools of thought on democracy, reflect on where further research would be interesting
