Students will on average spend 150-hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.
Online independent and collaborative learning activities equivalent to 1 x 1-hour per week
This unit is concerned with the interplay of communication and politics, including the transactions that occur among citizens, between citizens and their governments, and among officials within governments.
We examine the 'media logic' which pervades contemporary politics and the capacity of different actors to mould public opinion and the policy agenda, and the role here of modern communication technologies.
At a more institutional level, the unit explores closely the imperative of effective communication within governments, the associated issues and challenges.
Conduct extensive research and critically evaluate political communication theory as it applies to real-life problems and be able to devise comprehensive solutions to address these
