Students will on average spend 150-hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.

This unit assumes no prior knowledge of Indonesian language. In this unit, students will learn beginner level Indonesian by reading, writing and developing an understanding of cultural norms through a focus on social interaction and language for particular contexts. Looking at a variety of social settings provides important insights into Indonesian society. The focus on conversational Indonesian provides a useful basis for understanding daily interactions and engaging native speakers of Indonesian. Students taking this unit will have the opportunity to explore a range of language immersion experiences.
Read and write simple sentences in Indonesian using basic grammatical constructions and apply this in a range of contexts

Identify basic aspects of the Indonesian language in order to comprehend aurally and communication orally at a beginners' level

Identify inter-related cultural and language practices and explain their influence on Indonesian social interactions
