Deakin University – one of Australia’s most progressive and agile universities – has launched a new brand campaign ‘Let’s Keep Earth Wonderful’ to remind us of the small, beautiful and unique things about everyday life on planet Earth that we often take for granted.

At Deakin, we’re committed to building a sustainable, wonderful world through environmental education, innovative research and climate ready campuses.

That little patch of sun, the sound of rain on a tin roof and the ‘hairy, yet delicious’ raspberry feature in three new videos to highlight Deakin’s work across renewable energy, integrated water management and sustainable agriculture.

Deakin’s solar farm, a component of the microgrid, is one of the largest on an Australian university campus, we spend each day listening to the land and seeking opportunities from the changing climate, and we focus on the social value of water and how waterways contribute to healthy ecosystems, liveability and a sense of place.

Partnering with Melbourne independent, SICKDOGWOLFMAN, Matt Edge, Chief Marketing Officer at Deakin University, says messaging around sustainability has leant on fear and negativity to paint a bleak vision of the future.

“Fear might be a motivator but it’s not a problem solver. This campaign is a beautiful summation of the way we approach sustainability here at Deakin. We believe deeply in approaching our collective sustainability challenges with positivity and optimism.”

Sustainability is at the heart of Deakin’s research, creating positive change for local and global communities, and working hard to solve some of the world’s most pressing environmental issues. Whether out in the field or harnessing state-of-the-art equipment in our labs, our researchers are contributing to a more sustainable world.

Jess Wheeler, creative director, SICKDOGWOLFMAN says ‘refreshing is a word that comes to mind’ with this campaign.

“When Deakin first approached us with this brief we were quite taken aback by their level of optimism for the future. But it very quickly made sense, and soon we were all launching into this project with the same curiosity and optimism we wanted to evoke. We’re thrilled to help capture and instil this sense of wonder in present and future Deakin students.”

Deakin is committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2025 through renewable energy. It will take time and effort but the CN2025 program will build the foundations for a more sustainable University for many years into the future.
