Master of Professional Accounting
Whether you are in search of a new career direction or looking to upgrade your current accounting skills with recognised qualifications, the Master of Professional Accounting will give you the flexibility to achieve your goals. Open to graduates from both accounting and non-accounting backgrounds, you will learn corporate and management accounting, commercial law, accounting theory, economics and finance. Throughout the core units, students will learn analytic skills and the practical application of those skills in professional contexts.
Completion of the appropriate selection of units within the Master of Professional Accounting will grant eligibility for entry as an associate member of CPA Australia. It also meets the educational requirements for entry into the CA program of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA), Professional Accounting Program (PEP). By completing appropriate units, it is also possible to receive exemptions from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) towards the ACCA qualification.
Master of International Accounting
This program is designed to lead to two qualifications: a master degree from Deakin and a professional qualification from the largest global body for professional accountants, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). You will study subjects such as introductory accounting, financial reporting, corporate auditing and information systems for business, governance and finance.
On successful completion of this degree, you will not only gain exemption from all nine ‘fundamental’ level Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) papers, but also have the necessary knowledge to undertake the ACCA’s six ‘professional’ level examinations. In addition to the ACCA qualification, completion of the appropriate selection of units within the Master of International Accounting will also grant you eligibility for entry into alternate professional bodies, including as an associate member of CPA Australia, and meets the educational requirements for entry into the CA program of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) and the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA).
Master of Professional Accounting and Finance
Through its unique combination of accounting and finance specialisations, the Master of Professional Accounting and Finance will provide you with a solid skill set that can lead to a range of careers. With the flexibility to choose elective courses that are relevant to your career and personal goals, you could find employment in financial accounting, auditing, taxation, forensic accounting, client account management, security analysis and stockbroking.
The Master of Professional Accounting and Finance also allows you to work towards membership in professional bodies in accounting and finance, including Certified Practicing Accountants (CPA) Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) and the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA).
Master of Professional Accounting and Law
This degree is designed for non-law and non-accounting graduates. It is tailored for those who need specialist legal knowledge in their roles (regulatory, compliance or risk management positions), and want to combine this knowledge with an advanced accounting qualification. The degree provides the required knowledge for professional accounting practice and gives law students the opportunity to gain accounting expertise to enhance their career outside the legal profession.
The Master of Professional Accounting and Law offers graduates a pathway to gain entry to professional accounting bodies such as CPA Australia, the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA), Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) and exemptions from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
Master of Financial Planning

The Master of Financial Planning is approved by the Financial Adviser Standards and Ethics Authority (FASEA). This means graduates will be eligible for entry into the certification programs of the professional financial planning associations – the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® (CFP®) Certification Program offered by the Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA) and the Fellow Chartered Financial Practitioner (FChFP) designation offered by the Association of Financial Advisers (AFA).
