The release of the Report of the Bradley Review of Higher Education this morning (Wednesday 17 December) has been welcomed by the Vice-Chancellor of Deakin University, Professor Sally Walker. Professor Walker said that many of the proposals reflect Deakin's goals as set out in the University's Strategic Plan – Delivering Effective Partnerships.

"The extent to which the Review Panel and Deakin University have common aims is striking," Professor Walker said.

"For example, the Report says: 'Providers in regional and remote areas need to be encouraged and supported to build up partnerships with local communities, providers in other sectors of education, business and industry'. Partnerships of this kind are a central feature of Deakin's Strategic Plan.

"We are also pleased that the Report of the Bradley Review has emphasised the need to increase the proportion of the population with a higher education qualification and the need to increase the participation of Indigenous people, people from low socio-economic backgrounds and those from regional and remote areas."

Professor Walker said that Deakin looks forward to the Australian Government's response to the Report in early 2009.
