Deborah Klein: Out of the Past at Deakin University Art Gallery
Media releaseWhat: Opening of the exhibition Deborah Klein: Out of the Past at Deakin University Art Gallery
Toured by Castlemaine Art Gallery and Historical Museum Out of the Past will present the work of well known artist Deborah Klein spanning the period 1995 –2007.
Characterised by body decoration, tattooing and hair combs this phase of the artist's work is rich in metaphor. Klein's works are documents of unwavering feminine identity, strength and dignity. Her bold use of colour suggests powerful emotions but this is tempered by her depiction of control and purpose through patterning and symmetry.
The exhibition was guest curated by Diane Soumilas.
The exhibition begun its tour at Castlemaine Art Gallery and Historical Museum and was then shown at Ballarat and Warrnambool before concluding at Deakin University, Burwood.
