New Law Chair brings criminal finance expertise

Deakin University has appointed a new Chair in Law and expert in money laundering and the financing of terrorism – Professor Louis De Koker.

Deakin University has appointed a new Chair in Law and expert in money laundering and the financing of terrorism – Professor Louis De Koker.

Professor De Koker's current research interests focus on financial crime regulation as a barrier to access to financial services, especially by marginalised members of the community. He has recently co-published a major study funded by the FIRST Initiative on the impact of money laundering control regulations on access to financial services in Indonesia, Pakistan, South Africa, Kenya and Mexico. He also teaches in corporate law, corporate compliance, money laundering control and corporate governance.

Professor De Koker also works with the World Bank and is currently advising governors of Central Banks on the positive and negative impact of specific regulatory interventions. He is consulting with the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor and has held consultancies with the Bank's Financial Integrity Unit.
