More students put Deakin first

Increasing numbers of Victorian students are putting Deakin University first, according to the 2010 Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) Timely Preference data released today (Wednesday 4 November 2009).

The number of first preferences for Deakin courses increased by a staggering 16 per cent from 8605 in 2009 to 9978 in 2010.

The number of first to fourth preferences for Deakin courses increased by 12.3 per cent from 32,127 in 2009 to 36,085 for 2010.

"This is an excellent result for Deakin University which continues our growth in previous years," said Deakin University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sally Walker.

"Deakin offers relevant, contemporary and flexible courses; our success is reflected in this result.

"We are proud that an increasing number of Victorians are taking the opportunity to participate in higher education at Deakin."

Deakin's Teaching (Primary) and Nursing courses, both at the Melbourne Campus at Burwood, were in the State's top 10 courses in terms of first preferences.

Deakin's Nursing degree featured again among the top 10 courses in the State in terms of first to fourth preferences, as did its Arts degree.

First to fourth and total preferences increased across all Deakin's Campuses in Burwood, Geelong Waterfront, Waurn Ponds and Warrnambool.
