Recent acquisitions go on display at Deakin University Art Gallery

Recent acquisitions from the Deakin University Art Collectionpresents artwork purchased by Deakin University as well as donations acquired through its Cultural Gifts Program and exhibitions from 2007 to present. Artists represented include Margaret Ackland, Godwin Bradbeer, William Breen, Michael Fitzjames, Deborah Halpern, Judy Holding, Deborah Klein, Song Ling, Terry Matassoni, Lisa Roet, Heather Shimmen, Thornton Walker and Deborah Walker.

Also on display is a tapestry commissioned by Deakin University from the Victorian Tapestry Workshop. Designed to be displayed in the International Centre at Elgar Road the work presents a bright and colourful example of artist Song Ling's painting called Kong Fu – Our Dream 1.

Other acquisitions for the Art Collection include Custodians: Country and Culture, which is a suite of prints by 10 well known Indigenous artists. The prints will be on display in the nearby Deakin University Library foyer.

Deakin University's Art Collection consists of around 1500 diverse pieces. It has been in existence since the University's inception. The works include a fine collection of paintings, ceramics and works on paper. The Sculpture Collection is a significant body of large and small sculpture and maquettes from a range of well known contemporary Australian artists that is displayed throughout the four campuses of Deakin University.

This structured and well balanced Collection represents works of art of excellence and significance by principally Australian contemporary artists, in a wide range of mediums. Maintaining this significant art collection demonstrates the University's interest in the study, patronage and advancement of the visual arts in Australia.
