Deakin alumnus becomes Victorian Premier

Deakin Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jane den Hollander today congratulated Deakin alumnus, Dr Denis Napthine, on becoming leader of the Victorian Parliamentary Liberal Party and Victoria's new Premier.

Dr Napthine completed a Master of Business Administration as an off-campus student in 1989.

"We are delighted to see a Deakin alumnus elected to the top leadership position in the State and in a position to have a positive effect on the lives of Victorians," she said.

Dr Napthine is the Member for South-West Coast, the electorate in which Deakin's Warrnambool campus is situated, and has been a strong supporter of the contribution that Deakin makes to the south-west of the State.

"We have enjoyed a long and very positive working relationship with Dr Napthine as one of our local members and we look forward to continuing that relationship into the future," Professor den Hollander said.

"As a member of parliament representing a regional electorate, Dr Napthine is well versed in the challenges and opportunities facing regional Victoria and is aware of Deakin's role across regional Victoria, to drive productivity and equip our students with the required skills for the jobs of the future."
