Deakin Business School has partnered with boutique financial planning firm Scholten Collins McKissock Wealth Management to provide study support for the next generation of financial planners.

The Scholten Collins McKissock Scholarship in Financial Planning will support the living and education expenses of students studying commerce with a major in financial planning.

The Scholarship has been generously supported by Mont Albert based Scholten Collins McKissock Wealth Management, a boutique financial planning firm who offer an array of services to individuals, families and businesses including investment, superannuation, retirement planning, estate planning, aged care, insurance and lending.

Practice Principal and Deakin alumnus Matthew Scholten said the most important thing for the firm was supporting students in need and ensuring the top students are thinking about studying financial planning.

"The most important thing for Scholten Collins McKissock is that we are supporting the next generation of financial planners," Mr Scholten said.

"At the end of the day it comes down to trust in our business, and we want to ensure that when people seek out financial advice, they are getting it from highly qualified financial planners.

"We see this as a win-win-win situation, we get to help change a student's life, support education, and ensure that we are helping to raise the standard of financial advice in Australia."

Deakin University Financial Planning Course Director Dr Adrian Raftery said having industry involved with students via scholarships and internships was a great way of linking practice with theory.

“It is great having our Deakin Alumni such as Matt putting back into the system once they have established their own successful careers, and continue their legacy,” Dr Raftery said.

“Our mission at the Deakin Business School is to prepare graduates for careers of the future and scholarships like this help our students get a closer link to employers rather than as an afterthought at the end of their degrees.”

The Scholten Collins McKissock Scholarship in Financial Planning will be available to students from Trimester 1 2017. Students interested in applying for the Scholarship can view details at http://www.deakin.edu.au/courses/scholarships/find-a-scholarship/scholtens-collins-mckissock-scholarship
