Deakin experts available for comment on the Voice referendum

Deakin University academics are available for expert comment and analysis on a range of topics related to the Indigenous Voice to Parliament referendum on October 14.

Social analysis

Professor Mark Rose – Pro Vice Chancellor, Indigenous Strategy and Innovation

Professor Rose has traditional family links to the Gunditjmara nation of Victoria and can speak on any queries related to the substance of the Voice proposal, advice for what people should consider prior to casting their vote and also how to have a healthy and respectful conversation on the topic with friends and colleagues.

Professor Fethi Mansouri – Director of the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation

Professor Mansouri is a leading expert on migration, diversity and intercultural relations and can speak to information gaps that exist for Australian multicultural groups on the Voice referendum. He can discuss the need to provide appropriate information to people of non-English speaking communities so they can better understand and engage more effectively with the issue.

Dr Geoffrey Robinson – Senior Lecturer in Politics

Dr Robinson is a senior lecturer in politics who can speak to the public opinion surrounding the Voice debate and the prospects of a successful yes vote.

Legal analysis

Associate Professor Parick Emerton – Acting Deputy Head of School, Deakin Law School

Associate Professor Emerton is an expert on Australian constitutional law and on Australian constitutional values. He can talk about the significance of the referendum process in Australian constitutionalism. Patrick can also talk about the way the proposed Voice amendment would fit into the broader Australian constitutional framework.
