Statement from the Vice-Chancellor on the future of the Warrnambool Campus
Media releaseProfessor Jane den Hollander has today provided an update to staff, current and prospective students, and the community on the future of the Warrnambool Campus.
Positive discussions with Federal and State Governments
“When I visited Warrnambool last month I said we would soon begin discussions with the new Federal Government, and continue discussions with the State Government regarding how we might secure higher education for the Warrnambool community,” Professor den Hollander said.
“I am pleased to inform you that those discussions have been positive and that great progress is being made. We will continue to work with the Federal and State governments and the community to achieve long-term sustainability in Warrnambool.
“I look forward to saying more about these discussions as they progress.
Deakin University Council meeting
“University Council met yesterday and its agenda included the Warrnambool Campus. No further substantive decisions were taken.
“Council did agree to provide the Regional Tertiary Advisory Group time to finalise and submit its strategic vision for the Warrnambool Campus so it may inform Council’s overall consideration of the future of the Campus at its next meeting on 16 September.
“We continue to work on all fronts to ensure that the University Council has all the information it needs to fully inform its consideration of this matter.”
Warrnambool Campus Open Day
As final preparations for Sunday’s Warrnambool Campus Open Day continue, Professor den Hollander said it was important to restate certainty for current and prospective students.
“I can make it crystal clear that our wonderful students, and those thinking of enrolling, are unaffected by the ongoing discussions,” Professor den Hollander said.
“Both current students, and those that begin in 2017 will continue their studies in the normal way and will graduate from the Warrnambool Campus.”
