Deakin University will partner with Women in Film and Television Victoria (WIFT Vic) to showcase the latest and greatest work of Deakin graduates on the silver and small screens.

In recognition of International Women's Day, Deakin and WIFT Vic will host a free event at Federation Square on Thursday evening and screen 10 short pioneering films made by Deakin women.

In an effort to encourage and boost the number of women working in the Australian film and television industry, Deakin will use the event to showcase its teaching and learning, innovative use of cinematic technology and its pioneering alumni.

Microwave Minute is an experimental film which explores just how long a minute can a feel when you're watching the clock. It was created by Deakin graduate Taryn Logan. The film was screened during the recent White Night Melbourne 2015.

The screening program is as diverse as the industry itself, with works ranging from a 13-minute 1985 documentary piece Miles of Music, which follows teenagers on a five month road tour, to a 15-minute 2001 fictional story about a Polish immigrant whose hearing is suddenly restored after 60 years of silence.

Read the full program and register to attend the International Women's Day Screening.
