26 June 2019

Welcome to the June edition of dKin Times.

Welcome to dKin Times, my final edition as your Vice-Chancellor. It has been an honour to serve as Deakin’s sixth Vice-Chancellor and as I reflect upon the last nine years, I believe we have much to celebrate. In the most recent round of graduations, our 250,000th graduate joined the Deakin Alumni Community. This is an impressive milestone and we should all be proud with our progress.

We have risen through the rankings and now proudly sit amongst the top 1.1 per cent of universities globally; our commitment to distance learning is embodied in our Cloud Campus; 100% of our research is at or above world standard; and our students continue to rate us number one for satisfaction across the state. All of these achievements, and more, have been a result of the hard work of our University’s staff, the support of our partners and the sincere interest and involvement of our alumni community.

Professor Iain Martin, who will succeed me as Vice-Chancellor from 1 July, has been with us for all of June.  We have had a detailed hand-over with many conversations along the way and he is now ready to take this great place on the next stage of its journey. I hope you will welcome Iain as you have welcomed me.

Thank you for being part of this important community. Deakin’s alumni are the best evidence of our University’s excellence. I wish you all happiness and good fortune.

Jane den Hollander AO

President and Vice-Chancellor
