President and Vice-Chancellor's Message

The latest tranche of Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage grants were announced earlier this month, with a number of Deakin projects receiving funding. ARC Linkage grants aim to promote collaboration with industry, and they align well with Deakin's research goals. The latest round of projects include research into sustainable development and biodiversity on Indigenous lands, audio water marking, noise control, improving battery safety with boron nitrate nanotube separators, and improving the flavour quality of Australian-farmed barramundi. The research is in collaboration with our industry and university partners, and is focused on industry needs – looking for real world solutions, in real time, with real value. Innovation for Deakin means collaborating with our community and industry partners to create new industry and new high value jobs.

I am also delighted to announce that this month, we learned your annual alumni magazine dKin received the international Council for Advancement of Support of Education (CASE) Gold award, praised by the judges for being, 'incredibly creative and innovative'. If you’ve not yet done so, I urge you to have a look. In addition to being quite beautiful, your magazine is a very good read indeed. Congratulations to the alumni team.

I also suggest you check out the webinars and podcasts developed for our alumni. They are a great way to keep in touch with some of the important issues facing our world (and the podcasts are perfect for downloading and listening to on the way to work).

I am also very pleased to recognise and congratulate the Deakin alumni and staff who were recognised as part of the Queen’s Birthday Honours earlier this month. We take great pride in their exceptional achievement.
