Year 12 students

After all the hard work you’ve put into your education, you deserve the best Year 12 possible – and we’re here to help you make it happen. With one-on-one consultations, online info sessions, preferencing tips and more, we can give you the right support to take the right steps towards your ultimate course and career.

5 ways to plan your future

With so many choices in front of you, sometimes it can be hard to know where to start. Create a clearer path forward with five simple steps you can put into practice right here and now. Before you know it, you’ll be feeling informed and in control of your future.

  1. Research courses

It’s never too early to start researching uni courses. You can download a course guide, use Deakin Explore to match your interests to courses and careers, and browse hundreds of courses by ATAR.

  2. Read the entry requirements on course pages

Some courses have special entry requirements, like the CASPer test for some education courses, the GAMSAT for some medicine courses and the folio of work you need to provide for some design courses. The earlier you understand the entry requirements, the better prepared you’ll be.

  3. Chat with our experts

Whenever you need us, we’re here for you. If you're finding it tough to choose between courses or need some help through preferencing, chat with us online or call us on 1800 693 888.

  4. Familiarise yourself with key dates

Stay in control throughout the year and never miss a deadline by familiarising yourself with key dates and events.

  5. Start your course preferences shortlist

Preferencing doesn’t start until August, but there’s nothing stopping you from getting a head start with your own shortlist. As you do more research, have more conservations and complete your Year 12 assessments, you can progressively refine your shortlist.

How to choose your preferences

VTAC preferencing opens 2 August 2021 for courses commencing in 2022.

  1. Select ‘course application’ in your VTAC account.
  2. Apply for up to eight courses in order of preference.
  3. Review your application and submit.

Remember, VTAC will offer you a place in the highest preference you’re eligible for. So while it’s important to include courses you think you’ll get into, your top preferences should be the courses you want to get into – shoot for the stars!
