Digital technologies have become an integral part of our everyday lives. At Deakin, we combine strong foundations in design thinking and strategies with the technical skills required to delve into software design, user interface design and design for augmented and virtual realities.

By studying digital technologies design at Deakin, you can build your skills in design thinking, and develop the strategic and technical skills needed to advance your practice and stand out in a competitive industry.  Our courses will help you to create a strong portfolio throughout our studies, including working on projects from real clients briefs, so you can graduate ready to enter or advance your position in the workplace.

Undergraduate

Undergraduate (your first degree)

An undergraduate degree is generally completed between two to four years, depending on the pattern of study and any recognition of prior learning you may have. Associate degrees, bachelor and bachelor with honours are all undergraduate degrees.

Postgraduate

Postgraduate (further study)

A postgraduate qualification can be undertaken by students who have already completed an undergraduate degree or possess significant, demonstrable work experience. Postgraduate courses include graduate certificates, graduate diplomas, masters and PhDs, as well as specialist programs for industry professionals.

Research

Higher Degrees by Research (supervised research)

Research degrees are research based master’s or PhD programs that focus on a single area of expertise. They provide students the opportunity to carry out highly specialised research under expert supervision.

Explore technological entrepreneurship and innovation and specialise in an area that interests you most with flexible core units within courses.

Throughout my course I had a world of opportunity. I was chosen to work on the branding for Kardinia Park stadium, won the Graduate Exhibition, and got a job working in web/UX design and marketing.

Design Institute of Australia (DIA)

Our Bachelor of Design course is formally recognised by the DIA, so you can be assured it meets the appropriate industry standards. It also means you can obtain membership of the DIA, giving you access to some of the biggest design events and experts in the nation.

Strong industry connections

Deakin University is an active member of both the Design Institute of Australia (DIA) and the International Council of Design (Ico-D). Deakin is also a supporter of the Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA).

uniteD x design

Final year design students collaborate on a dynamic, cross-discipline industry project, working with not-for-profit clients. Working to a real brief, students assist with brand development or creative campaigns and exhibit their work in a final graduate exhibition.
