Students will on average spend 150 hours over the trimester undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.

Scheduled learning activities - online

1 x 1 hour self-paced interactive module
1 x 2 hour online seminar per week.
No compulsory attendance requirements

Note:

Online self-paced interactive learning each week will provide students with the theoretical background for practical counselling skills taught in online seminars. Online seminars each week will support students to develop applied counselling skills. These seminars will focus on demonstrating and practising counselling activities in dyads and triads.

Content

This unit will provide students with foundational knowledge of contemporary counselling roles and the professional standards that underlie them. Students will learn about the various roles and settings where counselling skills are utilized and counsellors are employed. The unit will also teach the application of counselling skills in supervisory, leadership, and management positions. Students will be introduced to the fundamental codes of conduct and laws that apply across a range of common counselling environments, providing essential preparation for counselling practice.
