Content
This unit provides pre-service teachers an opportunity to encounter and on reflect on key concepts that focus on identities, knowledges and histories from the perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander experiences and wisdoms. The emphasis of ‘knowing oneself’ supports preservice to teachers to engage in meaningful interconnections between the curriculum and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives and knowledges. The unit also supports students to develop insights into family, kinship and community that enhance a pre-service teacher’s respect for diverse ways of being and knowing which lie at the heart of developing strategies for teaching Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
