Content
With the arrival of the Europeans and the colonisation of Australia, ancient and effective education systems were severely disrupted and replaced with colonial and then neo-colonial schooling systems made by, with, and for the benefit of non-Indigenous students. This unit will introduce students to the impacts of colonisation on education and schooling in Australia and how this translates to poor outcomes for First Nations students. Students will also be introduced to the practical and applied ways they can engage with decolonising praxis in their classrooms to adjust their teaching for the benefit of all students regardless of their cultural contexts.
