Study commitment

Students will on average spend 150 hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.

This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site.

Scheduled learning activities - campus

1 x 1 hour seminar per week, and 1 x 2 hours practical experience (studio) in weeks (1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11).

 

Content

Unit SEE705 provides students with an overview of energy efficiency and demand side management systems and the strategies to develop sustainable energy systems with increasing penetration of renewable energy. Students will be required to complete energy efficiency calculations, analyse data, and apply their understanding of demand management to make recommendations to stakeholders. Students will have the opportunity to explore the different components related with building energy efficiency including structural design as well as heating/cooling operation and develop strategies to improve the energy efficiency. They will also design of appropriate demand response strategies which will be essential for effective operation of electricity networks integrated with renewable energy. Students will engage with industry standard tools and reporting methods to communicate recommended improvements in terms of energy efficiency and demand management for residential, commercial, and industrial building applications.
