For students enrolled in S460, S461, S462, S463, S464, S465, S466 must have completed STP010 and 12 credit points of study.

For students enrolled in S751, S752, S756, S757, S758, S759 must have completed STP710 and 4 credit points of study.

Study commitment

Students will on average spend 150 hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.

Scheduled learning activities - campus

Students are required to complete one of the placement options with an approved organisation.

Placement Option 1: Minimum of 225 hours (equivalent of 30 days full time) with additional continuing professional development (CPD) equivalent to 225 hours of placement activity.

Placement Option 2: Minimum of 450 hours (equivalent of 60 days full time).

Students are required to complete Ready: WIL Placement Unit Induction modules, on the unit site, before commencing their placement.

Students are required to complete one of the  placement options with an approved organisation.

Note:

Students must contact their enrolment officer prior to enrolling in this unit in order to meet the selection requirements and ensure placement is approved.

Note also that delays in completing the placement could mean that the course will take longer to complete than the stated duration.  Attendance at the placement may be required outside the trimester dates. Content

This unit enables students studying an engineering course to engage in work integrated learning through professional engineering practice experience and continuous professional development (CPD) with a suitable organisation(s). Placements must be approved by the Unit Chair before enrolment in the unit and must be for a minimum of 30 working days (225 hours). The course requirements can be completed in up to two separately approved professional engineering practice placements.  This practice-based experience for students is intended to enable the development and advancement of professional practice knowledge and skills typically sought from graduate professional engineers (as defined by the Australian engineering profession). All associated learning and assessment activities for this unit are online. 

Hurdle requirement

To be eligible to obtain a pass in this unit students must:

  • Complete a pre-employability preparation READY module prior to day 1 of work placement 
  • Achieve a mark of at least 50% on the final report.
