Content

This unit engages students studying the Bachelor of Engineering (Industry) (Honours) to further develop their engineering practice skills. Completion of SEL798 Engineering Industry Experience A is a condition of enrolment for this unit. You must complete a minimum of 80 working days (600 hours) in this unit, which is in addition to a minimum of 80 days already completed through SEL798 Engineering Industry Experience A. The industry experience (placement) in a recognised organisation and your role within that organisation during your placement must be approved by the Unit Chair. The job role for your industry experience placement must allow you to apply and demonstrate knowledge and skills developed throughout your course. Continuing from the previous unit (SEL798 Industry Experience A), you will demonstrate evidence of professional engineering practice and continuing professional development (CPD), as part of your placement activities.

In this unit you will conduct an analysis of the socio-technical aspect of your engineering work and the impact your engineering work has on the organisation, its projects, different stakeholders, and your colleagues. This will involve you capturing and reflecting on your engineering activities including, but not limited to, stakeholder engagement, consultative decision making, problem solving, self-management, communication, and teamwork. You will use critical self-reflection to explore personal learning throughout this unit, and the effect this experience has had on your development as a reflective engineering practitioner. As a result of your engagement in this unit you will be able to identify the importance of lifelong learning, judge the value of various opportunities for your future career and plan appropriate personal and professional development activities to enhance your employability skills.

Hurdle requirement

To be eligible to obtain a pass in this unit, students must complete all the pass tasks within stipulated timeframes at the required minimum standard.
