Study commitment

Students will on average spend 150 hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.

This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site.

Content

This unit addresses advanced topics in the structural design of steel-concrete composite and, timber structures according to the Australian design codes. It examines various design parameters and construction materials to ensure their efficient use in structural applications. Relevant design rules/codes will be thoroughly covered to make students aware of the ongoing changes as new technologies emerge. Theories will be covered with a focus on practical applications. Fundamental concepts of design procedures will be introduced through design seminars and projects.

Hurdle requirement

To be eligible to obtain a pass in this unit, students must achieve a mark of at least 50% in the composite design report.
