Computer networks have enabled the development of technologies that have revolutionised how we communicate and access knowledge, including the World Wide Web, mobile computing, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things.  In SIT202, we will explore the current state of computer networks, reviewing the types of networks in use today, the communication protocols used and their arrangement into modular stacks, how problems are solved using networks and protocols, and an exploration of common network security issues.  Practical tasks will introduce the Linux operating system and explore the configuration and operation of network services used in modern networks.
