Students will on average spend 150 hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.

This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site.

Scheduled learning activities - campus

3 x 1 hour online lectures per week, 5 x 4 hour practical experience (laboratory) per trimester.

Content

SLE210 will build on the student’s level-one chemistry knowledge. The aim of this unit is to broaden knowledge and understanding of a range of chemistry concepts and to develop practical skills as a member of a team in a chemistry laboratory. Topics covered in this unit include atomic and molecular orbitals, introductory spectroscopy, organometallic complexes, the state of the matter, order in solids, and applications of chemical equilibrium. 

Hurdle requirement

To be eligible to obtain a pass in this unit, students must achieve at least 50% in the practical assessments.
