Content

SRL733 considers contemporary engagements and relationships with Australian First Nation communities in architectural design and projects. Part of the unit examines First Nation peoples and their cultural and spiritual relationships to land, territory, Country, language, name, knowledge transferal, custodianship, personal and environmental health and their symbiotic use and curatorship of natural resources as legitimate design approaches. A second part examines a set of Australian exemplar case studies where First Nation peoples have actively engaged in the formulation of design projects that have resulted in highly significant, innovative and creative outcomes that demonstrate respect and cultural richness. A third part considers design processes including consultation, engagement and protocols and draws upon on-site engagement with a place rich in Indigenous meanings, associations, and history.
