Students will on average spend 150 hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.

Scheduled learning activities - campus

1 x 2 hour class per week, 1 x 1 hour seminar per week.

Online independent and collaborative learning including 1 x 2 hour online class per week and 5 x 1 hour online seminars per trimester.

*In Trimester 3 students are expected to work in teams and to physically visit an Australian building as part of their major assessment.  All learning materials are online. 

Content

SRT358 allows students to investigate the range of building services used primarily in commercial buildings, including HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), electrical, vertical transportation and fire services. Students will learn about the spatial and location requirements as well as the component and installation principles, control systems, commissioning and testing requirements, and performance expectations. Alternative approaches with lower environmental impact and the roles and responsibilities of the various services consultants are also discussed.

Hurdle requirement

To be eligible to obtain a pass in this unit students must achieve at least 40% in the cumulative score resulting from individual Summative Assessments 1 and 2.
