'The keen interest that I had towards computers and the passion to study in the field of science and technology encouraged me choose IT. I have always wanted to explore the world beyond my island and take up the challenge to live independently in a different country.
Being an international student in Australia, I have come across many challenges that were resolved through trial and error. I became a Peer Support Mentor where I could share strategies I used with other new students, to overcome similar challenges. Deakin values diversity and it is a place where you are warmly welcomed regardless of your background, culture and ability. I admire how Deakin has influenced me to develop a strong sense of community and an enthusiasm to collaborate well with a culturally-diverse community.
The support I received has not only helped improve my knowledge in IT but also change me to a self-confident person. Deakin gives recognition to the good work that you do. If you do well here, you don't have to run behind opportunities, opportunities come looking for you.'
