How you'll learn

You’ll learn on the social online learning platform OpenLearning, a dedicated platform with active learning, scaffolded, progressive tasks and a community of practice to share ideas and knowledge.

Go at your own pace with support from your educator and fellow learners during online learning activities and discussions. Complete your course within 6 weeks, including the assessment, or take extra time and use the regular assessment submission windows to complete within 20–26 weeks of your enrolment.

What you'll learn

During the short course you’ll:

    • learn about the relevance, purpose and operation of the technologies that underpin web applications
    • design and implement web services using contemporary tools, languages and frameworks
    • identify options for and deploy web applications to suitable production environments
    • justify the outcomes achieved by providing relevant evidence and critiquing the quality of that evidence against given criteria.

How you’re assessed

Your assessment task requires you to build a sample web application demonstrating web skills development learnt during the course, for example:

  • API design and implementation
  • responding with dynamic content to web requests
  • interaction with permanent storage (databases).

Entry requirements

To be successful we recommend you are proficient in English and have a minimum of an undergraduate degree in a related field or significant work experience.

^Front-end Web Development Foundations and Web Application Server-Side Foundations must both be studied to gain credit toward the Graduate Certificate of Information Technology. The two short courses are equivalent to Web Technologies and Development (SIT774), which is a foundation unit in the graduate certificate.

*Subject to successful completion of the short course and meeting Deakin’s award course admission and selection requirements, including English language proficiency requirements.
