Course structure
IELTS PREPARATION
The IELTS Preparation course is designed for you to achieve success in the IELTS examination. In this course you will:
» become familiar with IELTS examination format
» improve listening, reading, writing and speaking skills
» learn strategies for dealing effectively with the tasks in the examination
» practise IELTS tasks under timed conditions.
IAP
Each week of the IAP program focuses on a range of tasks and academic themes.
The academic preparation is supported by an orientation and ongoing support delivered by Deakin University’s International Student Advisors (ISAs). The ISA’s provide an individual and group support program that helps with accommodation, personal welfare transition to Australia and transition to an Australia academic environment.
Students will undertake 20 hours face to face tuition each week with 5 hours a week allocated for Independent Learning and welfare support.
The IAP program will enable you to:
» use catalogue and database searching techniques to locate relevant articles
» critically analyse research articles
» paraphrase and summarise information
» negotiate a research proposal
» edit and re-draft information
» use appropriate referencing
» plan an appropriate research design
» negotiate procedures and outcomes in small groups
» make formal and informal presentations to the class
» take notes and report on university lectures
» participate in group discussions
» identify cultural differences in learning strategies and learning styles.
Assessment
At the end of the five-week IAP program, you will receive an assessment report that details your achievement against:
» a group 20-minute PowerPoint presentation on research
» a 2000-word group research project.
ENGLISH FOR NURSING
The English for Nursing program is a five-week intensive English program that will prepare students wishing to undertake a Bachelor of Nursing program at Deakin University. Please note that students will need to obtain an overall IELTS result of 7.0 (no band lower than 7.0) or equivalent OET result to meet the English language requirements for Deakin's Bachelor of Nursing.
Course Length
5 weeks (25 hours per week including 5 weeks of supervised independent learning in the ILC).

» 1 hour timed writing: argumentative essay
» 5 week reflective journal
» Group Seminar
» Verbal explanation of a patient’s condition using a standard medical form
ENGLISH FOR TEACHING
The English for Teaching program is a high level intensive English program that will prepare you for entry into a Bachelor of Teaching and Master of Teaching degree at Deakin University. Successful completion of the English for Teaching program will mean that you have met the English language requirements for Deakin’s Bachelor of Teaching and Master of Teaching.
Students who wish to enrol in the English for Teaching program must have an IELTS score of 7.0 (no band lower than 7.0) or have completed a DUELI EAP 4 program with an overall score of 70 per cent.
Course Length

Entry requirements
Entry information
IELTS Preparation: You must have a minimum IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent (GE7 or EAP 3) to enter the IELTS Preparation program
IAP: The IAP program is a high-level Australian Award scholarship students with IELTS 6.5 or above (or equivalent).
English for Nursing: English for Nursing must have an IELTS score of 6.5 (no band lower than 6.5) or have completed a DUELI EAP 4 program with an overall score of 65 per cent
English for Teaching: IELTS score of 7.0 (no band lower than 7.0) or have completed a DUELI EAP 4 program with an overall score of 70 per cent.
