Course structure
IELTS PREPARATION
The IELTS Preparation course will help you develop your English skills for the IELTS examination. In this course you will:
» become familiar with IELTS examination format
» improve listening, reading, writing and speaking skills
» learn strategies for dealing effectively with the tasks in the examination
» practise IELTS tasks under timed conditions.
IAP
Each week of the IAP program focuses on a range of tasks and academic themes.
The academic preparation is supported by an orientation and ongoing support delivered by Deakin University’s International Student Advisers (ISAs). The ISAs provide an individual and group support program that helps with accommodation, personal welfare transition to Australia and transition to an Australia academic environment.
Students will undertake 16 hours face to face tuition each week with 5 hours a week allocated for Independent Learning and welfare support.
The IAP program will enable you to:
» use catalogue and database searching techniques to locate relevant articles
» critically analyse research articles
» paraphrase and summarise information
» negotiate a research proposal
» edit and re-draft information
» use appropriate referencing
» plan appropriate research design
» negotiate procedures and outcomes in small groups
» make formal and informal presentations to the class
» take notes and report on university lectures
» participate in group discussions
» identify cultural differences in learning strategies and learning styles.
Assessment
At the end of the five-week IAP program, you will receive an assessment report that details your achievement against:
» a group 20-minute PowerPoint presentation on research
» a 2000-word group research project.
ENGLISH FOR TEACHING
The English for Teaching program is a high level intensive English program that will prepare you for entry into a Master of Teaching degree at Deakin University. Successful completion of the English for Teaching program will mean that you have met the English language requirements for Deakin’s Master of Teaching.
Students who wish to enrol in the English for Teaching program must have an IELTS score of 7.0 (no band lower than 7.0) or have completed a DUELI EAP 4 program with an overall score of 70 per cent.
To successfully complete the English for Teaching program, you must get a final course result of 60 per cent or higher.
Course Length
5 weeks (25 hours per week including 5 hours of supervised independent learning in the ILC).

The availability of a course varies across locations and intakes. This means that a course offered in Trimester 1 may not be offered in the same location for Trimester 2 or 3. Check each intake for up-to-date information on when and where you can commence your studies.

Entry requirements
Placement into all DUELI classes is based on the results of the DUELI Placement Test or other approved test.
To be considered for admission to this course you will need to meet at least one of the criteria outlined in the English language proficiency requirements tab.
