Deakin Vice-Chancellor Professor Iain Martin has congratulated The Hon Alan Tudge MP on his appointment as Education Minister, following the Federal Cabinet reshuffle announced on Friday.

Professor Martin said in welcoming Minister Tudge, he also expressed a deep thanks for the enduring contribution of outgoing Education Minister, The Hon Dan Tehan MP.

“As both Education Minister and the local MP for Deakin’s Warrnambool campus, Minister Tehan has been a strong supporter of our commitment to delivering higher education in Victoria’s South West region,” Professor Martin said.

“When Deakin refocused its education model at the Warrnambool campus in 2016, Minister Tehan's efforts to facilitate the support of the Federal Government were crucial.

“Minister Tehan has demonstrated a real passion for quality graduate employment outcomes and regional access to higher education.

“On behalf of the Deakin community I congratulate Minister Tehan on his achievements and wish him well as he tackles the challenges of the Trade portfolio.”

Professor Martin said Minister Tudge brings a wide array of skills and experience to the higher education sector.

“I offer my heartfelt congratulations to Minister Tudge on his promotion to the critical portfolios of education and youth. These are challenging times for our sector, and I know Minister Tudge is committed to the provision of quality education and innovative research, designed to boost both economic development and employment opportunities,” Professor Martin said.
