Biography

Dr Claudia Escobar Vega is a Lecturer in Arts and Cultural Management at Deakin Business School. She has a PhD from the University of Wollongong, a Master of Management from Universidad de los Andes (Colombia), a Master of Theatre Practice from The University of Melbourne, a Graduate Diploma in Marketing from Universidad de los Andes (Colombia) and a Graduate Diploma in Performance Creation from The University of Melbourne. Claudia is a member of DBS Leadership Futures Hub and has previously been involved at DBS as a researcher and academic. She has a long trajectory working in the arts industry, has served in arts advisory committees and boards of management and appeared in national media. Claudia’s research interests include implicit leadership theory and socially constructed theories of leadership, with a particular focus on children’s and adolescents’ theories of leadership. Claudia’s research concerns the development of effective strategies, often through the arts, to promote leadership equity, diversity, and inclusion in future generations. She often works in partnership with schools and arts organisations developing educational programs. She has a growing publication profile and recent work in the Journal of Management & Organization. Her research work has been featured at the Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management, ANZAM, and at the International Conference on Arts and Cultural Management AIMAC. She is the recipient of multiple awards, recognitions, and scholarships including Australian & New Zealand Academy of Management Best Doctoral Dissertation - Commendation of Merit Award (2021); Australian Government - Distinguished Talent Permanent Residency (2015); Keith and Elisabeth Murdoch Travelling Fellowship (2011); and Art and Youth for Peace Award (Colombia, 2010).
