Biography summary
A/Prof. Hong Xian Li joined Deakin University following the award of her PhD degree from the University of Alberta in Canada (QS ranking #4 in Canada, and #110 globally). Her teaching and research interests cover both building and construction disciplines, with a focus on sustainable buildings and construction, including high-performance buildings (zero energy/carbon buildings), renewable energy, and building prefabrication.
A/Prof. Li has been professionally recognised as a Higher Education Academy (HEA) Fellow, referring to the UK Professional Standards Framework. A/Prof. Li received the Teaching and Learning Award 2023 from the Faculty of Science Engineering & Built Environment (SEBE) for her outstanding contributions to the field of building environmental units through high quality teaching that benefits diverse student cohorts.
A/Prof. Li’s research has been published in numerous prestigious journals in the sustainable built environment. A/Prof. Li has been leading interdisciplinary teams on cutting-edge research projects that are being funded under sustainable built environment schemes. A/Prof. Li’s research has been well recognised by academia, industry, and government agencies through prestigious awards, academic service, and the adoption and citation of her research.
As lead CI, her project with the PICAC received the Best Commercial Building Energy Management Project 2022 award by the Australian Energy Efficiency Council. A/Prof. Li was the recipient of the Honourable Mention in the Stephen G. Revay Award 2013 by the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering for her outstanding contribution to the field. A/Prof. Li is also awarded Outstanding Reviewer by Sustainable Cities and Society and Renewable Energy, Elsevier. Dr Li serves academia as an invited reviewer for competitive grant assessments worldwide and an invited journal editor for several journals. A/Prof. Li also has worldwide collaborations with well-known institutes and individuals in the US, Canada, the UK, China, and some European countries.

A/Prof. Li is leading core Building Environmental units that have diverse disciplinary cohorts across faculties, including SRT257 (Building Environmental Studies) and SRT358 (Building Environmental Services) in T3. These Building Environmental units offer first-class education in the area of sustainable building design and construction, including climate analysis, energy performance assessment, design improvement, and building services. The contemporary unit content enables students to gain leading knowledge in this area, fostering the next generation towards a sustainable future.
A/Prof. Li also supervise students in research units, including SRR721 (Construction Research Project) and SRR 402 (Construction Research Thesis), uplifting their research skills.
