Biography

Jessica is a Registered Public Health Nutritionist (NSA) with a wealth of experience in public health nutrition and nutrition promotion and education across a variety of sectors including government, not for profit, community health and academia.

She has experience in statewide healthy eating policy development and implementation across Victorian settings including early childhood education and care, schools, workplaces, hospitals and health centres and sport and recreation centres.

Jessica is passionate about helping to create healthy eating environments to support good health for communities and populations, and about teaching and empowering students in this area.

Career highlights

  • Working in children's nutrition at the NPY Women's Council in Alice Springs, with families from remote Aboriginal communities to support children's growth and development 
  • Helping to establish the Healthy Eating Advisory Service and supporting food policy implementation across Victorian settings
  • Supporting the development of food and nutrition policy at the Department of Health, particularly the Healthy Choices guidelines
  • Working with the Department of Health and the Department of Education to establish a guide for assessing healthy eating in the National Quality Standard for Early Childhood Education and Care
  • Supporting a joint directive from the COAG Heathy Council and Meeting of Sport and Recreation Ministers to address childhood obesity through healthy eating in children's sport and recreation
  • Helping to develop a joint position statement between the Dietitians Association of Australia and Dental Health Services Victoria about oral health and nutrition 
  • Undertaking a secondment to Sport and Recreation Victoria to integrate healthy eating policy into state wide sport and recreation initiatives
