Jill is internationally recognised for her research in the field of mathematics education. She has an impressive list of publications that focus on mathematical modelling, the teaching and learning of functions, and the use of digital technologies by teachers and students. Her interests include researching the teaching, learning and assessing of real world applications and mathematical modelling, mathematical thinking and reasoning, functions in technology-rich environments, affordances, zone theory, and anything that furthers our understanding of teaching and learning mathematics.
Jill’s university teaching focuses on mathematics and mathematics education for pre-service teachers in Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary courses as well as postgraduate units for practicing teachers.
Jill contributes her expertise in a range of service roles. She is an elected member on the International Executive of the International Community of Teachers of Mathematical Modelling and Applications (ICTMA), 2013-2022. She is currenlty secretary and webmaster - see www.ictma.net
She is member of the international Expert Panel for the International Mathematical Modelling Challenge (IMMC) 2016- , and contributor to the Australian IMMC Advisory Team and an active member of their judging panel 2016-. See immchallenge.org and immchallenge.org.au
