To participate in the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (H355), students must meet the inherent requirements outlined below.

Inherent requirements of occupational therapy
Communication
Occupational therapy students will have advanced interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Thinking and learning skills
Occupational therapy students will have highly developed cognitive skills to solve complex problems and for reflection.
Professional behaviours
- Occupational therapists and occupational therapy students are bound by the Occupational Therapy Australia Code of Ethics and The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Deakin occupational therapy students are bound by the Deakin Student Code of Conduct and the Deakin Occupational Therapy Student Code of Conduct. All students undertaking placement will be required to sign and return the Deakin Occupational Therapy Student Code of Conduct which can be found on the course page.
- The Bachelor of Occupational Therapy course has a strong emphasis on professional attitudes, behaviour and ethical practice.
- To progress with the course, students must meet the requirements and demonstrate appropriate professional attitudes and behaviour, consistent with the relevant Codes mentioned above.
Behavioural stability
Occupational therapy students will practice behavioural stability and sensitivity in diverse situations and circumstances.
