How to register with the DRC
If you would like to receive assistance from the DRC, follow the steps below to formally register with us.
Explore what we offer
To understand whether the DRC can support your needs, take a moment to read the information about our services. This will give you a clear overview of the types of assistance available and help you decide whether our service aligns with what you’re looking for.
Prepare your documentation
Before submitting your registration, you will need to gather some documentation about your disability or health condition. This information helps us understand how to support your study experience.
Your documentation must:
- describe your condition or diagnosis
- outline how your studies may be impacted
- indicate whether your condition is permanent, ongoing or temporary
- be completed by a registered healthcare professional
- include their signature, date and provider number, and
- be in English (or translated by an accredited translator).Professionals who can complete documentation include:
- General Practitioner (GP) or doctor
- Psychologist or Psychiatrist
- Occupational Therapist
- Mental health nurse
- Physiotherapist
- Speech pathologist
- Specialist e.g., audiologist and others. If you’re unsure who is appropriate, the DRC can advise you.
If you have a learning disability and were assessed after age 16, you will not need a new assessment.
Submit your registration
If you have supporting documentation from a relevant health professional, you can upload it when submitting your DRC registration. This helps us better understand the adjustments you may require. However, if you do not have documentation readily available it can be provided at a later date.
The registration form will ask you to briefly outline your condition, describe how it affects your studies, upload your documentation, choose your preferred appointment format (in‑person, phone or Zoom), and confirm the collection statement.
Completing this form lets us know you are ready to begin the support process.
Book your appointment
After your registration is submitted, you will be able to book an appointment with a Disability Liaison Officer (DLO). You can choose a time and location that suit you.
Appointments can be held in-person at Burwood, Waurn Ponds, Waterfront or Warrnambool Campus, over the phone, or on Zoom.
You’re welcome to bring a support person if that feels helpful. If you require an Auslan interpreter, you can request this during the booking process.
Meet with your DLO
During your appointment, you and your DLO will discuss your study experience, any barriers you’re navigating, and the types of adjustments that may support you.
This conversation helps ensure your support plan reflects your individual circumstances.Together, you will create your Access Plan, which outlines the adjustments, strategies and services that will assist with your access and participation at university.
After your appointment, your Access Plan will be published and you will be able to access it online through the Student Help Hub Portal. Relevant university staff (such as unit chairs or the exams team) will also receive the sections they need to implement your adjustments appropriately.
