Germany - Olivia

Olivia and friends in Germany

Student: Olivia
Course: Bachelor of Laws
Program: Short-term exchange

I had always dreamt of studying abroad, but as I reached the final year of my degree I thought I’d missed my chance. This was until I discovered Bucerius Law School's three-week program on AI, Legal Technology and Operations in Hamburg, Germany. It provided me the opportunity to learn more about an emerging area in law, in a country I’d never visited, and allowed me to travel solo internationally for the first time.

The application process was straightforward, and the Deakin Abroad team guided me every step of the way.

Those three weeks in Germany became one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. The classes were engaging and taught by passionate lecturers from around the world. Our group included students, lawyers and professionals from diverse backgrounds, which made discussions particularly eye-opening.

The program also included a walking tour of Hamburg and a weekend trip to Berlin. Outside of class, we had plenty of free time to explore the city and experience daily life in Germany.

Beyond the classroom, I fell in love with Hamburg – its calm streets, respectful culture and quiet charm. I met incredible people, many of whom I’ll stay connected with for life. The experience gave me confidence, broadened my horizons, and inspired me to continue stepping outside my comfort zone.

My only regret is not doing it sooner. To anyone considering studying abroad, I would encourage you to take the leap. It is well worth it, and you will grow more than you can imagine.
